BRIEF: LAUNCH PRIME VIDEO’S NEW COMEDY PLATFORM

Amazon Prime Video asked us to help them announce they were getting into the stand-up game with their first batch of original comedy specials. With five specials launching in August and more to come, they asked us to establish the look, feel, and messaging for stand-up up on Prime Video, including how it would adapt to a variety of assets: multiple trailers, social spots, key art, and short promos that play before Amazon Original shows.

SOLUTION: A COLORFUL SYSTEM THAT PLANS FOR FUTURE JOKES

We freshened up the stand-up trope of a comedian on a dark stage, assigning a color swash for each comedian’s individual special while creating a unified look and feel for the platform. For expressive elements like billboards and key art, we implemented fun bits like hand drawn type and illustrated icons representative of each comedian’s material. For harder working assets like the box art on the Prime Video home page, color and type became simpler and cleaner.

COMEDY PLUS ALEXA EQUALS FUN

We also developed scripts and provided shoot guidance for a variety of social spots featuring Alexa and five of our launch comedians: Alice Wetterlund, Alonzo Bodden, Mike E. Winfield, Jen Smedley and Kristin Hensley. Our comedians riffed on Alexa’s terrible #dadjokes and announced their specials in quick vignettes perfect for social and Prime Video pre-roll.
